When all systems work together great things happen
IT departments are not service shops, IT departments are mission control!
IT is business critical missions at every level, because today's IT departments are the "Make it happen!" departments.
When a company executive decides it’s time to chart a course to Mars, he likely hands it to IT to figure out how to make it happen. IT departments are not break and fix, upgrade and replace, develop and build shops. Information organization and delivery to the right people is the choke point, or the success point, of any competitive organization and this enormous responsibility and privilege falls to IT. Business process automation, intra-company information exchange, new technology development and return on investment analysis, vendor supervision, customer accountability, project management, and so much more. Today's IT director spends as much time managing relationships outside the company as within.
IT missions are about business process efficiency, not just in the IT department, but within the entire organization. Yet IT itself can and often has become a plethora of disparate applications that work together as inefficiently as possible.
"An application for every business process" was once revolutionary. Every organizational task had an application to fulfill it and reduce workload, neat and tidy. Yet that model has a huge shortcoming as most of those applications do not share data nicely. Data entry duplication, users with 5 or 10 applications open on their screen at any given time, cutting and pasting dozens of times to build daily reports needed by company executives, massive amounts of email attachments back and forth, the list of inefficiencies can be exhaustive. Even today we are often relying on manpower instead of cranium power to solve a great deal of our business problems.
Overcoming the issue of disparate applications: Two options
- Solve the problem over and over and over....
- Solve the problem once!
Option 1: A Series of Connectors for a Series of Applications
The traditional approach once again. When application A needs to share data with application B, we build a connector, or buy one, and then we train our operations staff how to use it. And then we repeat when we need to connect B to C, and again when we need to connect A to C, and again, and again, while the whole thing eventually becomes unmanageable and costly to maintain. Even worse, as custom applications are upgraded, they have to be upgraded individually and costs skyrocket.
Option 1 has everything sharing data but leaves us back where we started: an application for every task, PLUS an application for every share. By solving the issue this way, it is often made even more difficult to manage and track. Return on investment is poor and while each "share" between applications is justified on its own, the mess of applications continues to grow and costs as well continue to balloon.
Another issue kicks in with option 1, upgrades. Each application must be upgraded and features added independently. For custom applications this can be a major undertaking.
Option 2, An Agnostic, Connected, Secure, Managed Framework:
A unified approach to solve the problem once with the Patchcord Framework. Provide an environment, a true Framework you can build on, that is database agnostic, where just about anything can connect to anything. Common controls mean you can train your operational and IT staff once and once only. When it comes to your custom applications, common, reusable "code as infrastructure" means an enhancement to one is an enhancement to all. By building and implementing your applications within a well-engineered Framework, you gain unity.
Single point of control, unification, common user experience, multiple application upgrades in a single pass... As you can see, option 2, using the Framework, has a lot going for it!
When the Framework is your option, upgrading the applications built within it provides a significant return on investment, rather than a cost. By leveraging and building your applications within the Patchcord Framework, your upgrade path becomes one upgrade to the Framework, rather than possibly enormous rewrites of many different custom applications. An upgrade to the Framework can touch thousands of your custom created applications, providing them new functionality in one pass.
The Patchcord team has one directive. "We solve customer problems, PERIOD!"
We have built an amazing Framework that can help do exactly that.
Imagine your IT department enjoying the rapid development time, reduced management effort, and common user experience benefits provided by one, strong and powerful unifying Framework. Imagine how your customers, the users and executives, will enjoy having all the data they need, live and at their fingertips. On one screen you can truly provide them their needed data, their way.
